"The Secret Garden" is inspired by a pattern found on one of the arches overlooking the courtyard (sahn) in Ibn Tulun Mosque in Cairo. In the painting, flowers and birds ordinately populate circular gardens intersecting each other. A symbol for the natural order of nature and interconnectedness of living communities. The title of the artwork is an allusion both to the circular gardens embedded in the painting and the mosque courtyard as a gated place of joy and peace, like a garden.
